    What to Know About Opioids 
    Overdose Prevention, Awareness & Response for Parents & Teens
    Featuring Dr. Ronni Brown 
    Tuesday, April 29th @ 7:00-8:15pm | In-person at Synapse School, Edison Way, Menlo Park

    The current opioid epidemic is one of the most significant public health crises in our nation’s history. Recent increases in adolescent mortality from overdose have outpaced those in the general population.  In this presentation by Dr. Ronni Brown, San Mateo County health planner, parents and teens will learn about the use and misuse of opioids including fentanyl, and evidence-based harm reduction strategies to prevent overdose deaths across the spectrum from youth to adults.  The workshop will cover the following topics:
    • The magnitude of the opioid epidemic
    • Use and misuse of opioids, including fentanyl
    • The signs of an opioid overdose
    • How to administer naloxone (All attendees will receive a box of naloxone)
    • Ways to prevent substance misuse in your children (Teens are welcome to attend)
    • How to get involved in overdose prevention in San Mateo County
    Dr. Ronni Brown is the Senior Community Health Planner for San Mateo County and focuses on raising awareness and building resource capacity to reduce drug overdoses in the county. As a retired dentist, Dr. Brown provides a unique perspective on the impact of substance use disorders on overall health and well-being. She completed her dental and master's degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles, and completed a residency in dental public health at the University of California, San Francisco, where she is the recipient of the 2025 Alumni Practitioner Award.
