TRANSPORTATION AT SILICON VALLEY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Navigating transportation in the heart of Silicon Valley can be daunting, but we've made getting to campus both easy and enjoyable. Our safe and convenient bussing program serves students from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and the surrounding areas. Whether your child is joining our Elementary, Middle, or High School, options are continually evolving to ensure timely, quality, and safe transportation for the entire community.

bus service

Transportation is designed to prioritize convenience, safety, eco-friendliness, and required reduction of traffic. Routes and stops are strategically placed both North and South of the school's campuses to minimize transit time. While using the bus services is not mandatory for Elementary School or Upper School, it is highly recommended.

Services run Monday through Friday on all dates in which school is in session, with some exceptions that are announced each school year.

Pick-up and Drop-off Locations
North: San Mateo and Redwood City
South:  Mountain View and Sunnyvale
Pick-up and Drop-off times are aligned regardless of campus bus (Cohn or Willows). Current INTL parents can view the INTLnet Resource Board for times, locations, registration link, tracking service info and more.

carpooling

INTL parents are strongly encouraged to reach out to other parents to arrange carpools to and from school and after-school activities outside of INTL to support our sustainability efforts as a community.

Families of Upper School students are strongly encouraged to walk, bike, carpool to, or take our school bus to campus. Due to city permit regulations we limit the car traffic that is allowed on campus each day. Family participation in organizing their own carpools (biking, or walking) is vital to the success of our traffic operations and commitment to being a good neighbor to the surrounding community.

Transportation FAQs

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • Who can take the bus service?

Students currently enrolled in INTL’s Elementary (1st-5th Grades), Middle, and High School are provided with an opportunity to register for a convenient bus service (to/from Redwood City/San Mateo area and also Mountain View/Sunnyvale).
    • Kindergartners are only permitted to ride the bus if they are riding with an older sibling who will be on the bus with them

The bus service consists of one bus for each campus (Northbound and Southbound). There are 80 seats for the Willows Campus bus and 60 seats for the Cohn Campus bus. Seats for the bus service will be on a first-come, first-served basis. All families utilizing the bus service must register. Please see the INTLnet Resource Board for times, locations, registration link, tracking service info and more.
  • How much does the bus cost?

The bus programs for both Cohn and Willows Campuses are pilot programs and are currently offered at no cost to our families. In the future there may be a minimal cost associated with the bus programs.
  • When does the bus service start? Is it every day?

Bus service starts on the first day of school. It runs every full school day that school is in session. Please note that bus operation is contingent on ridership - meaning, the amount of students signed up to ride the bus. If for example, all students have alternative dismissal plans after school and only one student is taking the bus, it is possible that the bus will not operate. Families will be notified 24 hours beforehand if a bus route is canceled.
  • How do I enroll my child in the bus program if I want my child to take the bus?

Parents will register for the bus program directly on the online platform, SchoolPass (this will be another dismissal option to select from). The SchoolPass system is where you can self-manage your child’s transportation choices.
  • Can Elementary School and Upper School students ride the same transport?

Given the different schedules and transport patterns, there are separate routes for Elementary and Upper School students as each bus has a different final destination.
  • Who is driving the bus?

The bus is operated by licensed, Class B drivers with passenger endorsements as well as the school bus certification, one of whom is our Director of Transportation. All drivers are employees of INTL and are CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Who should I contact with feedback or questions related to transportation?

All feedback and questions can be made to our Director of Transportation at transporation@svintl.org
