social-emotional learning in an international environment

Silicon Valley International School (INTL) strives to create a nurturing environment in which students are encouraged to reach their full potential. Guided by the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile, social-emotional learning is woven into the fabric of the curriculum as well as taught explicitly.

As an added resource, INTL’s Student Services and Inclusion team provide collaborative support to faculty and staff and ensure school programs remain consistent with the school's mission along with best practices to foster belonging and facilitate social-emotional learning integration.

Classes work collaboratively to create Essential Agreements in the beginning of each year, which work in tandem with INTL’s Citizenship Standards, the IB Learner Profile, and our C.O.R.E. Values to guide all community members in common behavior expectations. Our international and bilingual approach to education reinforces the idea that each person is a unique and valued member of our learning community.

In Early Years & Elementary

Time is devoted each week to a shared period of “Harmonization,” where both teachers of a class are present to teach social-emotional tools, discuss any issues that may have arisen in the class or on the playground, and share a bilingual approach to both social-emotional learning and academics.

In Middle School

Each student is a member of an Advisory group, which provides not only social-emotional tools and support, but also teaches students essential organizational and time management skills. Our students enter high school with not only a rigorous academic preparation, but strong organizational, communication, and emotional intelligence skills.

In High School

High School students meet regularly with their advisor, who not only helps them navigate the demands of high school and the IB Diploma Programme, but also addresses their overall social-emotional wellbeing. Advisors work with students on stress management and reduction, building community and cohesiveness, and provide an overall social support system for students. High school can be a stressful time, and INTL’s advisors are committed to helping students to become resilient and healthy adults.

Notice of Nondiscriminatory policy as to students

Silicon Valley International School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
